MED0002HM Requisition #

Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services are currently recruiting a fully licensed physician to manage the medical/surgical needs of patients admitted to the Misericordia Community Hospital Surgical Services. Although the majority of coverage will be provided to the Orthopedic units, urgent and emergent medical coverage might be required to the Plastics and Urology services, in the absence of medical staff coverage after hours.

The physician’s role involves working under the guidance of an attending Orthopedic Surgeon for Orthopedic issues and independently for medical problems. It’s a co-management model where the surgeon is MRP but the Surgical Hospitalist is responsible for managing medical issues under his/her scope of practice.

Surgical Services at the Misericordia Community Hospital include responsibilities for Orthopedic inpatient care, and consults/admissions in the Emergency department, Day Surgery, Cast Clinic and in other wards.

The hours of coverage are (on-site):

·         Weekdays: Monday to Friday: 0700-1900 and 1900-0700

·         Weekends and Stat Holidays: 0700-1900 and 1900-0700

-          Daily duties include rounding, medication reconciliation, providing daily assessments, management and discharge planning for all patients admitted under the Orthopedic Service.

-          Optimization of new admissions to prevent delay of surgical treatment is also a priority.

-          Liaising with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families is expected.

-          Surgical assistance may be required in the absence of surgical assistants.

-          Coverage of available extra shifts in the schedule is expected.

Required:

·         MD or equivalent.

·         Certification with the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)

·         Licensed or eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

·         Appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage.

·         ACLS Certification.

·         Expertise and commitment to quality care and patient safety.

·         Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in the healthcare environment.

·         Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.

Applicants must have current experience in the clinical management of acute care inpatients, and/or experience in emergency room services.

This position will not support a practice readiness assessment.
