Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the role of Zone Clinical Section Chief, Newborn Health.  

 

This 0.40 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head for Child Health.  

 

The Zone Section Chief, Newborn Health is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the Department of Child Health in the Newborn Health Program in Edmonton Zone. This position is accountable for, but not limited to the review, development, and improvement of the services and programs in Newborn Health.

 

The Zone Section Chief for Newborn Health is a Senior Medical Leadership role in the Edmonton Zone providing leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head, contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Child Health and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.  Other major accountabilities include:

  • Quality Management - ensure the ongoing monitoring of quality clinical/medical practice across sites and ensure effective processes are in place to encourage best practice and improve clinical outcomes;
  • Academic Liaison – ensures effective support at the site level for teaching and research where appropriate;
  • Resource Management – support recruitment of physicians to staff the Newborn Health Program and standardization of contracts;
  • Performance Management – support the performance monitoring of medical staff 

 

This position has an approximate start date of July 1st, 2024 and an expected term of 3 years.

 

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety.  They will be an inclusive and visionary leader, ideally possessing experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers. 

 

The successful candidate will also possess superior interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated supervisory experience.  The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Child Health.

 

Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
