The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC or FRCSC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, in addition to having completed training in General Surgery and obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent. The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

We are particularly interested in those with superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to function well within interdisciplinary teams.  We would also be looking for the successful candidate to have demonstrated an interest in education and simulation. The successful candidate will take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Departments of Critical Care Medicine and Surgery at the University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will be a clinical academic colleague within the academic Department of Critical Care Medicine and the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery.

Remuneration for ICU work will be through a combination of clinical alternate relationship plan (ARP) funding model and fee-for-service (FFS) model. General Surgery remuneration will be a FFS model.  At the present time, twelve weeks of ICU service per year will be expected and will be renumerated through the ARP model. The surgical group is currently able to offer 1-2 OR days a month within the Edmonton Zone. Endoscopy time is also available within the Zone. There is the possibility of Outpatient department resources for minor procedures. Call coverage is required and divided equally amongst the surgeons.
