The Deputy Zone Medical Director (DZMD) is a Senior Medical Leadership Role in the Central Zone, and is a key leadership position within Alberta Health Services (AHS).  The Deputy Zone Medical Director provides direct support to the Zone Medical Director (ZMD) who is accountable for all AHS Medical Staff-related matters as well as all operational and strategic issues and decisions requiring Practitioner input or leadership that arise within the Zone

 

The DZMD will also provide leadership support to the ZMD, contribute expert guidance and advice to matters within the Zone and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of AHS strategic and operational plans and clinical policies and procedures. The DZMD will work closely with the ZMD and other medical leaders and operational colleagues across the zone

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing Concerns & Complaints and Privacy Breach processes in the Zone in accordance with the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws
  • Collaboration with stakeholders such as medical and operational leaders, external organizations and Strategic Clinical Network
  • Planning for the effective and efficient implementation, operationalization, management, and monitoring of provincially integrated clinical care initiatives and services, specifically Connect Care; as well as quality improvement and measurement programs
  • Providing leadership in communicating and consulting with the Medical Staff and the Zone Administrative Committee to ensure the development, review, and implementation of AHS and Zone clinical programs, policies and strategies
  • Participate as required on Provincial Working Groups
  • Supporting the development of clinical quality, patient safety, and clinical ethics activities, committees, and issues within the Zone
  • Participate in probationary assessments, periodic reviews, and development conversations
  • Work collaboratively with Zone Medical Affairs to develop and maintain a zone physician workforce plan

Required Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety working as a part of a leadership team. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
  • The candidate has experience in improvement and innovation in service delivery and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a medical leadership role or sequential roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.

 

Estimated time commitment:

3 days/week (0.60 FTE/week)
