Calgary Zone Medical Affairs and the Department of Family Medicine invites applications for the  joint position of Medical Director, Integrated Support and Facility Living (ISFL) and Section Chief, Seniors Care, Calgary Zone. 

The Medical Director, Integrated Support and Facility Living (ISFL) role focuses primarily on overseeing Facility Living, including long-term and complex care services. The Medical Director will collaborate closely with the Medical Director for Supportive Living and the Director of ISFL to implement the business plan, manage the budget, and ensure service quality. Responsibilities also include identifying trends and issues affecting outcomes, ensuring effective delivery of physician services, and engaging with external stakeholders such as owner-operators of Continuing Care facilities, patients, and the medical community. The Medical Director will report directly to the Medical Leader and the Executive Director of Seniors, Palliative, and Continuing Care. This position has an FTE of 0.4.

In a competent and professional manner, the Contractor will:

•    Collaborate with the Director of ISFL to develop strategic direction.
•    Contribute to the creation of Clinical Best Practices in ISFL.
•    Serve as a key medical resource for the ISFL team.
•    Liaise with the medical community, including medical leaders and frontline physicians.
•    Participate in quality assurance, critical incidents, and patient complaint management.
•    Chair the Site Lead Medical committee.
•    Attend various committee meetings, including:
o    SPCC Leadership Meeting 
o    SPCC Quality Council
o    ISFL Leadership Meeting
o    Quarterly Calgary Zone Meetings
o    TC Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
o    Congregate Owner-Operator Meetings
o    Continuing Care Capacity Strategy Meeting with Provincial Seniors Health
•    Support SPCC leadership and Zone Clinical Department Heads in achieving utilization and quality improvement targets for ISFL.
•    Address barriers to system effectiveness and ISFL goals.
•    Work with ISFL Directors on integration strategies and monitor trends and developments. 
•    Update policies and procedures to enhance ISFL operations.
•     Collaborate with Zone Clinical Departments and medical leaders on new facilities and programs.


For the Seniors Care Section Chief role, the position has a 0.1 FTE and consists of the following responsibilities:
Assist and support the Zone Clinical Department Head, Department of Family Medicine re: 
o    credentialing and privileging and periodic assessments for members of the Section of Seniors Care, DFM; 
o    ensuring section members adhere to the standards as outlined by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, including continuing professional development; 
o    ensuring section members adhere to policies of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and Alberta Health Services; 
o    ensuring the alignment of the clinical and academic Departments of Family Medicine. 
Dual Accountabilities – Department of Family Medicine and Specialized Geriatrics Services: 
o    investigation of critical incidents; 
o    quality and safety; 
o    determination of clinical work competence; 
o    recruitment and oversight for shared leadership positions such as site leaders medical within the Section of Seniors Care and ISH Program

Qualifications:

Qualifications include: 

•    Proven leadership, communication, organizational, change management, team building and facilitation skills.
•    Expertise in developing and providing resources, consultation, and collaborative support to stakeholder teams.
•    Ability to design, tailor, implement and evaluate effective strategies to meet identified priorities.
•    Experience in supporting and promoting clinical best practice and experience as a change agent.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills well developed interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate positive relationships and passion for patient safety.
•    Alberta Health Services privileges to practice at AHS facilities.

•    Must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
•    Must read, write, and speak English
•    Preference given to candidates with working knowledge of Integrated Supported and Facility Living (ISFL)
