In the Calgary Zone, Psychiatry Primary Care (PPC) physicians provide medical co-management for patients admitted to Addictions and Mental Health (Psychiatry) inpatient services. Optimization of the medical care for these increasingly complex and comorbid patients has been identified as a top priority for the Calgary Zone. Working closely with members of the psychiatry team, including psychiatrists, nursing and allied health, the PPC physicians are responsible for admission medical assessments, issue identification, development and implementation of a treatment plan, ongoing evaluation, and support with discharge planning. We pride ourselves in providing excellent patient-centered care for this vulnerable and under-serviced population.
We are currently recruiting 2 PPC positions at the Peter Lougheed Centre.
Currently, the clinical responsibilities for this position entail performing admission history and physical exams, as well as managing subacute and chronic medical problems for patients admitted to the inpatient Psychiatric service, including those awaiting beds in the emergency department. As needed, responsibilities also include involvement in acute medical concerns and clinical deterioration. Clear documentation, communication and collaboration is required. Hours involved are weekday in-house coverage and weekend on-call coverage consistent with the PPC Scope of Practice. Renumeration is fee for service.
Time Requirement:
0.1-0.3 Clinical FTE is anticipated. This will include weekday and occasional weekend shifts.

Qualifications:
-Eligible for licensure and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and CMPA
-Eligible for privileges within the Department of Family Medicine, Alberta Health Services
-Clinical excellence in the described role, with previous inpatient experience being an asset
-Excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team setting to create patient focused solutions
-Current BLS, ACLS certification
-Desire to participate and contribute to quality improvement activities
-Will be required to attend an in-person or video interview and provide references upon request
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
