Site Chief – South Health Campus, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone

 

 

The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services–Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for the position of Site Chief at the South Health Campus (SHC) in Calgary, Alberta.  This leadership position is open to surgeons currently working at South Health Campus. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated an interest in surgical leadership and will have a respected profile in the physician community. They will have effective communication skills and a track record of engaging their team members. They will have demonstrated success in areas of clinical practice and either education, research, quality improvement or leadership.

 

 The Clinical Department Site Chief – South Health Campus, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone plays an important role in supporting the mission of the Department of Surgery. The Clinical Department Site Chief – South Health Campus will be responsible for all matters related to daily operational issues pertaining to the operating rooms at SHC. The Site Chief will advise the Calgary Zone, Clinical Department Head of Surgery and Senior Leadership regarding issues related to patient volume, acuity, resource management, infrastructure, and patient safety matters at SHC. The Site Chief will support and promote the activities of research, education, and patient safety within the Department of Surgery.

Qualifications:

Duties and responsibilities include:

 

·         Chair the SHC OR/ Surgical Services committee. Responsible for follow-up and implementation of related action items.

·         Collaborate with other Calgary Zone physician leaders to develop, implement and evaluate new models of medical service delivery at SHC.  

·         Champion causes relevant to SHC.  

·         Communicate physician related issues for SHC to medical leadership team, operations team and membership (up, down and across the organization).  

·         Collaborate with Department, Division or Program Heads and SHC team to develop, implement and evaluate physician recruitment plan for SHC.  

·         Work with site leadership to accommodate onboarding and orienting new surgeons at SHC.  

·         Work with OR /Surgical Services committee to improve surgical flow, OR efficiency, and utilization.

·         Support activities of Surgical Services Clinical Safety and Quality Assurance.

·         Support activities of research and education arising from the offices of the Department of Surgery.

·         Work with site leadership and Department of Surgery section leadership to address concerns that arise regarding surgeon behavior and professionalism

·         Represent SHC at the DoS Surgical Executive Committee and other Department of Surgery events, including the annual retreat.

·         Representation of the Department of Surgery on ad hoc interdisciplinary site committees related to utilization, flow, efficiency, disaster planning, and patient safety.

 

 

Fulfillment of site responsibilities will be performed conjointly with Anesthesia, OR and PARR Nursing, related allied health disciplines, management, and additional clinical departments and services as required.

 

FTE:

0.2FTE Medical Affair Honoraria

 

Term:

October 1, 2025 – September 30, 2028.
