Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for the position of of Zone Medical Lead, CA & CSA Program under the Calgary Zone Medical Affairs Portfolio.  Governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, the Zone Medical Lead, CA & CSA Program is a key medical leadership position in Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone.

 

In a competent and professional manner, the Contractor will:

 

Oversee the zonal CA & CSA portfolio and is accountable for, but not limited to, deliverables related to the program:

·       The provision of leadership and performance management in the coordination and alignment of CA & CSA workforce planning, recruitment, and retention

·       Providing clinical leadership, consultation, support; ensuring the effective operation of the program

·       Monitoring clinical practice in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules

·       Advocating for the provision of overall quality, patient safety, and patient care

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Within the CA & CSA Program, responsible for:

·       Strategic planning and implementation of models of care including after-hours coverage, etc.

·       Effective and consistent communication: having a current AHS email address and reviewing email regularly to ensure a predictable communication channel

·       Assist in the development of the centralized structuring/enhancement of the CA & CSA Program and remuneration models

·       Participation and leadership in the following activities:

o   Provide physician support/liaison on behalf of the Program – contact for the Zone Clinical Department Heads, Associate Zone Medical Directors and other leaders as required

o   Participate actively in program development, implementation and evaluation

o   Participate actively in program candidate recruitment, selection and evaluation review

o   Provide feedback to facilitate necessary refinements of the program

·       Develop consistent Clinical Assistant evaluation and supervision processes in collaboration with AHS and CPSA

·       Meeting monthly with Medical Affairs CA & CSA Manager to address topics including:

o   Alternate Provider behavior/performance issues

o   Maintaining a collegial, safe learning and working clinical environment

o   Duty hours/call issues

o   Governance structure at the clinical sites

o   Crisis management

o   Orientation of new and current alternate providers

o   Workforce planning, recruitment, and retention

o   Clinical information system/Connect Care access

·       Work collaboratively with the Medical Affairs CA & CSA Manager and team to develop and administer innovative models of acute care coverage that are customized to best meet the needs of the patients in the associated clinical service and maximize available resources.

·       Actively participate on the Zone Clinical Department Head Committee to ensure a strong working relationship and effective communication between the CA & CSA Program and the Calgary zone medical leaders.

o   Align objectives as they relate to quality and excellence in patient care, research and education

o   Achieve and maintain an integrated, accessible and affordable health system that spans the full spectrum of medicine

o   Act as a leader in developing a structure for establishing joint strategies and operations

o   Seek mechanisms to enable collaboration to further shared goals

o   Strengthen workplace relationships and communications

·         As required by the Program Manager, conduct investigations related to concerns about CA & CSA behavior or competency.

·         Performing all other duties as per the AHS Bylaws and Rules or other duties delegated by the Calgary Zone Medical Director.

 

CONSULTATION:

·       Leadership and guidance in the Zone workforce plan as it pertains to alternate providers.

 

REPORTS TO:

·       Calgary Zone Medical Director

 Qualifications include:

·       Proven leadership, communication, organizational, change management, team building and facilitation skills.

·       Expertise in developing and providing resources, consultation, and collaborative support to stakeholder teams.

·       Ability to design, tailor, implement and evaluate effective strategies to meet identified priorities.

·       Experience in supporting and promoting clinical best practice and experience as a change agent.

·       Strong verbal and written communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate positive relationships and passion for patient safety.

·       Alberta Health Services privileges to practice at AHS facilities.

 

Applicants:

·       Are limited to current AHS medical staff

·       Must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

·       Must read, write, and speak English

·       Preference given to candidates with working knowledge of CA/CSA program
